Iowa Medicaid and GLP-1s
Preferred does not mean paid for. Iowa's drug list marks Wegovy and Zepbound preferred, then attaches a footnote saying the weight-loss indication is not covered, and points both rows at a prior-authorization form written for people who do not have diabetes and are not asking for weight loss. The three ways through are a cardiovascular history, a sleep study, or a liver biopsy.

Two maintenance doses, and no others

ContextIowa announced in August that the incretin criteria themselves are being rewritten, and dated the rewrite. The list quoted above is the one in force until then.
