Graded on whether a price is published, checkable, and still true at month two — how we grade · how we verify prices

Allara Health charges $149 a month for care if you pay yourself, nothing extra with in-network insurance, and publishes no price for the GLP-1 itself, only "starting at" figures.

  • No month-to-month price published
  • States published: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NY, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WV, WI, WY

The verdict

A women's health clinic with named specialists, a published state list and real insurance billing. As a place to buy a GLP-1 it tells you the visit fee and not the medication price, so you cannot know your monthly cost before you join.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • A named care team: a medical provider and a registered dietitian you keep for every visit.
  • Real insurance billing for visits, with no membership fee on an in-network plan.
  • A published self-pay price for care, $149 a month, with no long-term commitment.
  • A published list of the states where it offers medical care.
  • It prescribes brand-name GLP-1s through your own pharmacy, so coverage you already have can apply.
  • The company behind the brand and its New York address are published.

What could be better

  • No price for any GLP-1 medication, compounded or brand.
  • Two unexplained "starting at" figures for GLP-1s that do not agree with each other.
  • Labs, imaging and prescriptions are billed separately from the $149, with no published lab price.
  • No pharmacy is named for its own compounded line.
  • The terms say fees are non-refundable and, later, that refunds may be requested within 30 days.
  • The signup requires a phone verification code before it shows anything about cost.

What it is

A telehealth clinic for women's hormonal and metabolic conditions such as PCOS, insulin resistance, thyroid disease and perimenopause. Each patient gets a medical provider, from OB-GYNs and endocrinologists to women's health nurse practitioners, and a registered dietitian, with visits by video. Weight loss is one of its programs, and its clinicians prescribe GLP-1s when they judge one fits.

There are two routes to a GLP-1. Its clinicians can prescribe brand-name drugs such as Zepbound, Wegovy and the Foundayo pill, filled at your own pharmacy and billed to your insurance if it covers them. Or they can prescribe from Allara Rx, its own line of custom compounded medications, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, shipped to your door and never billed to insurance.

The company is Astrid Health, Inc., doing business as Allara, at 520 Broadway in New York. It says it is in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare and GEHA in some states, and does not take Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, Kaiser, HMO or marketplace plans.

What it actually costs at Allara Health

Published: $149 a month for care if you pay yourself. Not published: what a GLP-1 costs on top of it.

With in-network insurance there is no membership fee; you pay your plan's copay for visits. Without it, the Complete Care Program is $149 a month and covers medical and dietitian visits. Labs, imaging, prescriptions and supplements are billed separately either way. That is an honest membership model, but the membership is not the medication.

For the drug itself, Allara gives two figures and explains neither. Its prescriptions page says Allara Rx GLP-1s start at $77 per 50 days. Its GLP-1 page says care starts at $154 a month for the first three months, and also says there are no membership fees. Neither names a drug, a dose, or what you pay after the start. That is the "starting at" problem in two versions on one site.

We went through the signup as a self-pay patient in Texas. It asks your goals, height and weight, date of birth and insurance, then requires a code texted to your phone before going further. No price for the medication appears before that step.

Its terms say subscription fees are final and non-refundable unless stated otherwise, and a later section says refunds may be requested within 30 days, at the clinic's discretion. Allara Rx medication is final sale. Cancel at least 48 hours before the next billing date through your patient dashboard.

Who it's wrong for

  • Anyone who wants to know their monthly GLP-1 cost before they sign up. Allara does not publish it.
  • Anyone who only wants a prescription. The model is ongoing visits, labs and dietitian care, which is the point of it.
  • Anyone on Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, Kaiser, an HMO or a marketplace plan. Allara does not take them.
  • Anyone in Hawaii, Kansas, New Mexico, Rhode Island or South Carolina who wants medical care. Only the nutrition program is offered there.
  • Men. Allara is built for women's health.

How Allara Health works

  1. A short signup

Your goal, height and weight, sex, date of birth, whether you will use insurance and your zip code, then an account and a texted code.

  2. Meet your provider

A video visit with a women's health clinician, who may order labs before deciding on treatment.

  3. Meet your dietitian

A registered dietitian builds a nutrition and habits plan alongside any medication.

  4. Medication, if prescribed

Brand-name drugs go to your own pharmacy. Allara Rx compounded drugs ship in three to seven business days after payment.

  5. Follow-up visits

Each Allara Rx refill needs a follow-up visit so the provider can check the dose.

Common questions

How much does Allara Health cost?

With in-network insurance there is no membership fee and you pay your plan's copay for visits. Self-pay, the Complete Care Program is $149 a month and the Nutrition Program is $125. Labs, imaging and medication are billed separately.

Does Allara prescribe GLP-1s?

Yes, when its clinicians judge one fits. It prescribes brand-name drugs such as Zepbound and Wegovy through your own pharmacy, and compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide through its own Allara Rx line.

How much is a GLP-1 through Allara?

Allara does not publish it. Its pages show two "starting at" figures for GLP-1s that name no drug or dose, and the signup asks for a phone verification code before showing anything more. Ask for the monthly medication price in writing before you start.

Does insurance cover Allara Rx medication?

No. Allara says its Allara Rx compounded medications are not covered by insurance, though FSA or HSA funds may work. They are final sale and cannot be returned.

Which states does Allara Health serve?

Medical care in 45 states and Washington, DC. In Hawaii, Kansas, New Mexico, Rhode Island and South Carolina it offers only the nutrition program.

Can I get a refund from Allara Health?

Its terms say subscription fees are non-refundable unless stated otherwise, and also that refunds may be requested within 30 days, decided case by case. Allara Rx medication is final sale.

Why we gave Allara Health a F

Read the full grading rationale

Allara publishes what its care costs, $149 a month self-pay with no fee on in-network insurance, and nothing a GLP-1 itself costs. Its own compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide carry two different "starting at" figures, $77 per 50 days and $154 a month for the first three months, neither naming a drug, dose or what follows. A reader cannot tell which figure would be theirs.
