Connecticut's state health plan and GLP-1s

Connecticut didn't cut GLP-1s and didn't leave them alone either. Since July 2023, a state plan member who wants one for weight loss goes through FlyteHealth or gets nothing, and there's a $12.50 monthly fee to be in the program. Four years on, the comptroller's office has published what that did to the bill.

  1. One prescriber, or no coverage

    The plan pays for weight-loss medication from two places, and one of them is a children's clinic.

    $12.50 a month, paid by card to the vendor, on top of whatever the drug costs at the counter.

    Context

    A BMI of 30, or 27 with a named condition. The list of conditions is short and specific.

    “You can also join if you have a BMI of 27 or higher and have a weight-related health condition like diabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease, or liver disease.”
